Appearing on Fox News, Tea Party Senator Mike Lee said there is a small group of Senators that are prepared to shut down the government by refusing to pass the budget in September -- all in an effort to defeat the last few provisions of the Affordable Care Act.
"Congress, of course, has to pass a law to continue funding government,” Lee said. “Lately, we’ve been doing that through a funding mechanism called a continuing resolution. If Republicans in both houses simply refuse to vote for any continuing resolution that contains further funding for further enforcement of Obamacare, we can stop it. We can stop the individual mandate from going into effect."
In 2011, Lee refused to take the blame for an impending government shutdown, saying "We do not want a shutdown. If we have one, it will be because the president of the United States and members of the other party in this august body have refused to put forward a palatable, defensible budget."
