A lot of Republican lawmakers want to label the Boston bombing suspect
an “enemy combatant,” even though he is a US citizen. Evidently in Republican eyes, being a US citizen is not enough to make you an American. None of them wanted to name Timothy McVeigh an enemy combatant. Why? Your answers are the in names “Dzokhar Tsarnaev” and “Timothy McVeigh.”
Representative Peter King we need to label Dzokhar an enemy combatant because “the battlefield is now the United States
.” I don’t how familiar Peter King is with battlefields, but Boston wasn’t Stalingrad. The United States—Boston specifically—is not a “battlefield.” It is a crime scene. It was a horrific crime, but it wasn’t a military invasion.
It turns out that a bullet wound to the surviving bombing suspect’s neck may be the result of a failed suicide attempt
. I wish these guys were as bad at building pressure cooker bombs as they seem to be at everything else. No wonder they made shrapnel bombs their weapon of choice—they obviously weren’t too good with guns. In the sense they never did really assimilate into American culture. Somebody should have told these guys—if you can’t aim a gun, just buy an assault rifle. That completely eliminates the need to aim.
Deceased suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev was ejected from a mosque he attended
for being disruptive. Someone should have told him—if you want to be a troublemaker, you should join the Westboro Baptist Church.
The mother of the suspects says that her son was under FBI surveillance for 3 to 5 years
. That doesn’t necessarily mean anything—this country is full of people who are convinced that they are under FBI surveillance. The mother said her son was being “controlled” by the FBI, which is the literal translation of the Russian word for “monitored.” Great—that’s all that’s needed to launch a million conspiracy theories. The conspiracy theories are already everywhere. I’m sure that it’s only a matter of time before there is a class teaching them at Florida Atlantic University.
Sure enough, Glenn Beck has a theory
about the bombing in Boston. And you know what that means—somehow it will all get traced back to Woodrow Wilson. Beck is off on a crazy rant about the Saudi national who was labeled a “person of interest” immediately after the bombing, but soon cleared of any involvement. Well, he is now a person of interest to someone whose main interest is spreading paranoia.
